BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Alba Berdala has been named to the All-Big Ten Women's Tennis Team for the second straight season. Entering Friday's Big Ten quarterfinals match vs. Wisconsin, Berdala owns a 20-16 singles record and 22-22 mark in doubles competition.

"This is Alba's second year for being All-Big Ten," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "It is tough playing number one. Even the weak teams have a great number one player. She has not had an easy match all year. This is a great honor for her."

Berdala has served as the Hoosiers' No. 1 singles player in every dual match this season while splitting time between first and second doubles. Playing against the conference's elite in the top singles slot, she finished the Big Ten regular season at 5-5.

The Gerona, Spain native has also earned a pair of non-conference victories over top-100 opponents. In the fall, she downed #93 Dunja Antunovic of DePaul, 6-2, 7-5. Berdala did it again in the spring, topping Kentuck's Sarah Woestmann, ranked 69th nationally at the time, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Senior Brianna Williams was also recognized by the Big Ten, as the 2008 Sportsmanship Award honoree for Indiana University. The 11 Sportsmanship Award honorees chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. These student-athletes are now candidates for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, as the Conference office will honor one male and one female student-athlete from each institution at the end of the school year.

Indiana is scheduled to play 11th-seeded Wisconsin today at 2 p.m. eastern time following the Badgers first-round upset over No. 6 Michigan State. If inclement weather occurs forcing play indoors, the Hoosiers' match will be rescheduled for 7 p.m. Live match updates will be available via the women's tennis schedule page.
