    Batty Named Big Ten POW

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Women's tennis player Sarah Batty was named the Big Ten Women's Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Wednesday, April 27. The junior went 4-0 in singles and doubles action for Indiana last week against conference foes Michigan and Michigan State.

    The Chesterfield, England, product teamed with senior Dominika Walterova to defeat Michigan's Kara Delicata and Michelle DaCosta, ranked 26th in the nation, 8-4, at the top doubles position. The IU duo also won its tandem match against MSU to finish the Big Ten season with a 9-1 mark. The lone loss came to Audra Cohen and junior Cristelle Grier, 8-6 of Northwestern.

    At No. 2 singles, Batty defeated Michigan's Elizabeth Exon, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, and topped the Spartans' Christine Bader in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.

    Batty, who jumped from No. 120th to 100th in the national singles rankings this week, earns her first career Athlete of the Week selection. She and Walterova also earned their first collegiate doubles ranking at 53rd.
