Pair of Hoosiers Named All-Big Ten
April 29, 2010
Hureau and Vertesheva, both in their first season donning the Cream and Crimson, have made an immediate impact to the Hoosier program, confirmed by their selection to the 13-member All-Big Ten squad. The tandem has split time evenly during the dual-match season, rotating between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.
Hureau (24-11) and Vertesheva (26-10) have combined for 50 singles wins, compared to just 21 losses heading into the postseason. They each have a win over a nationally-ranked opponent as well. Hureau defeated No. 38 Maria Sorbello (Tennessee) in straight sets while Vertesheva tallied a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Purdue's Jennifer Rabot (No. 110). Hureau has been ranked as high as No. 101 this season.
Vertesheva, a sophomore transfer from Cal State-Northridge, has also excelled on the doubles court. When paired with Lindsey Stuckey, they form the 82nd-ranked doubles duo in the country with their 15-5 record. One of those wins came against the 20th-ranked doubles team of Rosalia Alda and Zsofia Zubor (Tennessee).
Indiana embarks into the postseason schedule Thursday at the Big Ten Tournament. The fifth-seeded Hoosiers will face the No. 4-seed and host school Iowa Hawkeyes at 11 a.m. EST. Live scoring is available for that match at www.hawkeyesports.com.
