Women's Tennis to Take On Vanderbilt in NCAA Tournament
April 30, 2013
LOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team is one of 64 schools heading to the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament. The No. 38 Hoosiers are an at-large bid and will take on No. 18 Vanderbilt in the opening round on Friday, May 10 in Clemson, S.C.
Indiana (18-9) is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010 as IU is the third seed and Vanderbilt (15-11) is the second-seeded team in the Clemson Regional. The winner will advance to take on the winner between the top seed in the regional and the No. 13 national seed, Clemson (14-7), and Eastern Kentucky (19-6).
"We know Vanderbilt was almost a No. 1 seed, so we drew one of the best No. 2 seeds in the field," head coach Lin Loring said. "That being said, we beat Duke earlier this season when they were No. 2 and later Michigan, who was ranked as high as No. 6. We are probably the three seed that no one wanted in their regional."
IU is making its 28th appearance in the NCAA Tournament as Loring has been at the helm for 36 seasons.
"The team is very excited," Loring added. "No one on this team has ever been to Clemson. We have never gone more than two years in a row without a trip to the NCAAs, so this was really important for our program to go this year."
The starting time for the match has not been announced, but stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com, follow @IUWomensTennis on twitter or check in with the team on Facebook as those details become available.
