Hoosiers Draw Vanderbilt in First Round of NCAAs
May 4, 2010
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the 27th time in 33 seasons, Head Coach Lin Loring and his Hoosier Women's Tennis team is headed to the NCAA Tournament. No. 41 Indiana (15-9) is being sent to a Regional hosted by the University of Tennessee, and will face No. 28 Vanderbilt (13-9) in the first round of the 64-team tournament on Friday, May 14.
"Our program expects to go to the NCAA Championships each year," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "So last year was a huge disappointment when we were the first team out."
"We thought we were in this year, but it is always exciting and a relief when you are watching ESPN and you see your name come up on the screen. I'm happy for the team, it has been a really rough year with all our injuries and illnesses. Win or lose, this will be really fun trip for us."
The Hoosiers are the third-seed in the Tennessee Regional, taking on the second-seeded Commordores. The winner of that match will face the victor of the other Regional contest featuring top-seeded and 14th-ranked Tennessee (16-8) versus fourth-seeded and 66th-ranked Winthrop (16-8).
"We are really excited about going to Tennessee and playing Vanderbilt. Knoxville is a road trip we take every other year, and this was the off year. Also, we didn't play Vanderbilt this year. So we are happy to be playing a team we haven't played this year at a location we haven't been too this year. Iowa, Illinois and Ohio State have to go to Notre Dame, Northwestern and Michigan. Believe me, we feel like we got the best deal because we get to go south out of the region."
