Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana womens tennis team received two individual awards after the Big Ten announced its honors on Wednesday. Senior Linda Tran and junior Dora Vastag were selected to the All-Big Ten Team.
Tran, from Grand Rapids, Mich., played at the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles position. Tran is 10-12 this spring with a 6-5 record in the conference in singles, and 17-7 overall and 9-2 in the conference in doubles. Tran and doubles partner Sarah Batty are currently ranked 25th by the ITA. Her statistics include a career 72-61 record in singles match-ups and an overall record of 121-39 in doubles. Tran competed in singles at the 2002 NCAA Regional and was selected in doubles to the 2002 NCAA Championships.
Vastag, from Okemos, Mich., played at the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles position. In her first season in Bloomington, she finished with a singles record of 19-11, along with going 6-5 in conference matches. She also went 23-13 in doubles with a 6-5 mark in Big Ten play. Vastag is currently ranked 52nd in the ITA Rankings for singles.
Im really happy for Dora and Linda, head coach Lin Loring said. They have been consistent performers all season. Im especially happy for Linda since this was her last chance to make the team.
The Hoosiers will be watching to see whether they will be selected into the field for the NCAA womens tennis tournament. Indiana wrapped up its season last weekend at the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Ill. The Hoosiers stand with an overall record of 17-7 and 9-2 in the Big Ten
