May 17, 2010
BlOOMINGTON, Ind. - IU Women's Tennis Freshman Leslie Hureau has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Ohio Valley Region Rookie of the Year. Hureau is one of 12 players in the country to earn the regional accolade.
"I'm very pleased for Leslie," said Head Coach Lin Loring. "She had an outstanding freshman year both on the court and in the classroom. Despite all her individual success she was also the total team player. It was a pleasure having her on the team this year. The really exciting news is that we have her for three more years."
Hureau filled the No. 1 singles position for 13 of 25 dual matches, rotating between the top spot and second singles slot with sophomore and fellow All-Big Ten team member Evgeniya Vertesheva.
Hureau racked up 25 singles wins and 19 doubles victories during her freshman campaign. Her biggest win came against No. 10 Tennessee, when she defeated the 38th-ranked singles player, Maria Sorbello, in straight sets to lead the Hoosiers to a 6-1 team victory over the Volunteers. Hureau has been ranked as high as No. 101 herself in the ITA's national singles rankings.
