BLOOMINGTON. Ind. - Five Hoosiers are set to compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Summer National Championship, Aug. 12-16 at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts. Indiana senior Laura McGaffigan, junior Brianna Williams, sophomores Sigrid Fischer and Stephanie Heller and incoming freshman Erin Clark (Fairfax/Vienna, Va.) will represent IU at the prestigious event.

"We are excited to host the final stop on the college summer circuit," head coach Lin Loring said. "This tournament will feature some of our program's top returning players and one of our newcomers."

The winners of the ITA's Summer National Championship will earn bids to the first national tournaments of the season, the ITA All-American Championships.

Last season, former Hoosier Sarah Batty and McGaffigan claimed the Summer Championship doubles title with an 8-3 win over North Carolina's Meg Fanjoy and Austin Smith, becoming the first Hoosier doubles team to earn a bid to the ITA All-American Tournament since Deborah Edelman and Rachel Epstein accomplished the feat in 1992.

Clark, Fischer, Heller, McGaffigan and Williams are not the only Hoosiers with involvement in the national tournament. Loring is the ITA's Summer Tournament's founder and national tournament director. Loring, who is entering his 30th season for the Hoosiers, began the summer circuit play in 1993. The National Summer Championships were added to the program in 1994. Over 20,000 student-athletes have participated in the summer action since the tournament's inception.

Complete results will be posted on IUHOOSIERS.com at the conclusion of each day.
