    ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL DAY FOR HOOSIERS AT INVITATIONAL Bloomington, Ind.--The Hoosiers once again looked impressive as they finished day two of the Indiana Fall invitational today. The tournament, which includes eight flighted singles draws and two flighted doubles draws, has the women competing against players from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC), Ball State, Kansas, Marquette, Miami (OH), Notre Dame, Southern Illinois and Western Michigan.

    All of the Hoosier teams split their morning doubles matches. In Flight 1, seniors Jessica Anderson and Becky Wallihan lost their opening match to Notre Dame's Lindsey Green and Kelly Zalinski 8-4, before capturing 3rd Place with a win over Larissa Chinwah and Nikki Thompson of Western Michigan 8-4. Also in Flight 1, senior Zahra Ahamed and junior Kelly Blanch won their opening match of the day against Southern Illinois' Ericka Ochoa and Ana Serrot 8-0, before losing to Pamela Floro and Simona Petrutiu of Southern Illinois 8-6 to finish in 10th Place.

    In Flight 2, freshman Jessica Levin and sophomore Ann Poosuthasee were victorious over Notre Dame's Katie Cuhna and Sarah Scaringe 8-6 to earn a spot in the finals. They were unable to defeat Marquette's Christine DeMasi and Julia Sapozhnikova 8-6, as they settled for 2nd Place. Junior Jennifer Hsia and freshman Karie Schlukebir lost their opening match in Flight 2 to Ball State's Julie Beekman and Susie Miller 8-2. They finished off the day with a victory over Miami (OH)'s Natalie Adams and Gwen Sikora 8-6 for a 7th Place finish.

    In singles, the Hoosiers took five out of the seven matches and are set up to play for first place in four draws tomorrow. In Flight 1, Anderson defeated Notre Dame's Kelly Zalinski 6-1,6-1 and will play ABAC's Milena Stanoytcheva tomorrow for 1st Place. In flight 2, Ahamed lost a close match to Notre Dame's Lindsey Green 7-5,7-6 and will face Cheryl Mallaiah of Kansas for 3rd Place tomorrow. Blanch, playing in Flight 3, was victorious over Marquette's Sara Fernandez 6-3,6-2 to earn a spot against Ball State's Julie Beekman for 1st place tomorrow. Levin also will play for 1st Place tomorrow as she defeated Alyson Gabel 6-1,6-0 today, setting up a match against Julia Sidorova of Kansas. In Flight 6, Hsia ousted Ball State's Susie Miller 7-5,6-2 to set up a 1st Place match against Western Michigan's Kendra Becker. Wallihan narrowly lost to Western Michigan's Mindy Champion 4-6,6-2,7-5 in Flight 7 and will face Gwen Sikora of Miami (OH) in a 3rd Place match tomorrow. In Flight 8, Schlukebir looked strong as she defeated Miami of Ohio's Lisa Eidam 8-5 and will play Notre Dame's Michelle Hamiliton tomorrow.

    Head Coach Lin Loring said, "Our singles play is further along this year than it was at this time last year. Unfortunely, our doubles play is not. We have several weaknesses in doubles that we need to correct."

    A round of singles tomorrow will end the Indiana Fall Invitational. The matches will begin at 9 a.m. and will take place at the Indiana University Varsity Courts and the tennis courts on Law Lane.
