Women's Tennis Receives Adam Herbert Cup Once Again
Sept. 30, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's tennis team earned the Adam Herbert Cup for the second consecutive semester. They were recognized on the field and awarded the trophy during the IU football game against Michigan State.
The award goes to the IU program with the highest overall team GPA. Head Coach Lin Loring's squad posted an impressive 3.55 team GPA during the spring semester.
"We stress academics from day number one of the recruiting process," said Loring. "Our tradition of success on the court is only surpassed by our tradition of excellence in the classroom. The last 30 years our team GPA has always been in the 3.3 to 3.7 range. The University and our alumni can take pride in our performance on and off the court."
All five members of the team that were eligible to make the Academic All-Big Ten team (freshmen cannot qualify), did so. Alba Berdala, Sigrid Fischer, Stephanie Heller, Lindsey Stuckey and Brianna Williams were each Academic All-Big Ten honorees.
Indiana will host the Hoosier Classic this weekend at the IU Tennis Complex. The event is scheduled to begin Friday at 10 a.m. with a round of singles competition. Other schools competing include: Kansas State, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Purdue and Indiana State. The event will run through Sunday and admission is free to the public.
