Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana women's tennis players Linda Tran and Karie Schlukebir will compete at the Riviera ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning Thursday.
The duo is included in a field of the elite doubles teams in the nation. Only 16 doubles teams from around the nation are invited to the tournament.
"We definitely can go out there and compete," Schlukebir said. "We have seen the preseason rankings and some of the girls that are ranked high are ones that we have already faced in juniors and we know that they are not invincible."
Schlukebir and Tran enter the tournament ranked 13th in the nation in the latest ITA poll and advanced to the national final in the ITA Summer National Championships in August.
"If they get a decent draw and get some matches under their belt, I think they'll do pretty well," Hoosier Head Coach Lin Loring said. "They aren't seeded out there, but as long as they don't get one of those top teams, I think they'll do fine."
"There aren't any expectations of us," Schlukebir said. "Only 16 teams are there, so this is our chance to go and play against some of those ranked above us. We are in a good position and it will be a good experience."
Schlukebir and Tran have compiled a 4-0 record during the fall season, with all of their wins coming in convincing fashion at the Hoosier Classic Invitational.
