IU Women's Tennis Heads to Vanderbilt This Weekend
Oct. 9, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team will look to keep its strong start to the fall schedule rolling this weekend with a stop in Nashville, Tenn., for the June Stewart Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt University. Play will begin on Friday, Oct. 11, and run through Sunday, Oct. 13.
Indiana played well in the Hoosier Classic to begin the fall slate as IU went 23-5 in singles and 16-4 in doubles play during that tournament. Kayla Fujimoto, Sophie Garre, Alecia Kauss, Katie Klyczek, Shannon Murdy, Gabrielle Rubenstein and Kim Scmider all had perfect weekends in singles at the Classic.
This weekend, the Hoosiers will face players from Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and William and Mary. Indiana played Vanderbilt last year in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and the Commodores eliminated the Hoosiers from the tourney.
This weekend's invite should be a competitive one as all four schools competing finished last year in the national rankings. In the final rankings of 2013, Vanderbilt was No. 19, Georgia Tech was No. 21, Indiana was No. 42 and William and Mary finished at No. 44.
Friday and Saturday's play will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET each of those days as Sunday matches will start at 10 a.m.
