Oct. 18, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regionals, hosted by Michigan State University, Oct. 19-24.
"This tournament gives us a good chance to see all the new players in the region and the Big Ten," head coach Lin Loring said. "It also gives the players some really good competition and will allow them to measure their progress since our last competition."
Lindsay Stuckey, Stephanie Heller and Erin Clark begin the tournament in the singles qualifier, starting Thursday, Oct. 19. The top eight finishers move on to the main draw.
Stuckey faces Tanya Gombera of Arkansas in her first match, while Heller will play Morgan Tuttle of Wisconsin. Clark will face off with Illinois-Chicago's Lubica Nadasska.
Four doubles teams will compete for the Hoosiers, led by the duo of McGaffigan and Williams. The doubles draw will be released on Thursday, Oct. 19.
Indiana last took the court at the Hoosier Classic, held Oct. 6-8 in Bloomington. Clark won all three of her round robin singles matches in the Classic, while Heller reached the finals of her singles flight. In doubles, McGaffigan and Williams reached the semifinals of the doubles bracket. Fischer and Perton fell in their first match of the tournament, but they rebounded to win their next three matches.
