BLOOMINGTON, Ind-- The Indiana womens tennis team will host the IU Fall Invitational at the IU Tennis Center on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 22-24, in Bloomington. That same weekend, senior Dora Vastag and sophomore Laura McGaffigan will play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regionals in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Invitational will boast a field of athletes from five schools, including Western Michigan, Ball State, Xavier and Toledo, along with Indiana. Four flights of eight players will comprise the singles bracket, while the doubles stanza will consist of 16 duos.
One round of singles and doubles will take place on Friday, a pair of doubles and one singles round will be on Saturday, with the final round of singles action slated for Sunday.
Vastag, ranked 37th by the ITA in singles, will team with McGaffigan in the round of 64 doubles on Friday, Oct. 22, at the ITA Regionals (2 p.m.). The round of 32 and the consolations doubles bracket will be played following the round of 64 on Friday.
Both players will participate in the main singles draw on Saturday, Oct. 23. The singles rounds of 32 and 16 and the consolation singles bracket will follow the opening round.
The doubles round of 16, quarterfinals and semifinals will all take place on Saturday.
The doubles final and main singles quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Monday, Oct. 25, with the singles finals penciled in for Tuesday, Oct. 26.
Fourteen of the nations top 120 singles players and nine of the nation's top 60 doubles teams will compete at the 2004 ITA Midwest Regional Championships. In addition to host Minnesota, the tournament will feature top players from nearly 30 Division I schools, including Northwestern, Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue, Notre Dame, Eastern Michigan and Indiana.
Indiana will host and play in its final tournament of the fall, the Indiana Invitational, on Friday-Sunday, Nov. 5-7. Purdue, Notre Dame and DePaul, along with the Hoosiers, are scheduled to play.
