Kalamazoo, Mich. Indiana began main draw doubles action at the ITA Midwest Championships on Friday, Oct. 24 with two teams advancing to the Round of 16. Freshman Cecile Perton also earned a qualifier berth in the singles main draw with her win today.
Seniors Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran, the No. 2 seed, defeated Tiffany Eklov and Isabel Jarosz of Illinois 8-5 in the opening round. The duo then defeated Rattiya Hiranrat and Malena Remynse of Western Michigan 9-8 to advance to the Round of 16.
Junior Dora Vastag and freshman Laura McGaffigan, a 9-16 seed, also advance to the Round of 16. They defeated Annali de Bruyn and Zorana Stefanovic of Drake 8-5 in the opening round, then defeated Illinois' Pavlina Arkitas and Leila Cehajic 8-5 to advance to the Round of 16.
Senior Martina Grimm and sophomore Sarah Batty, a 5-8 seed, won their opening round match against Bradley's Ashley Morris and Elise Mantrose 8-1. The duo then fell to Michigan's Kim Plaushines and Debra Streifler 8-2.
Perton and freshman Kara Zeder fell 8-3 to Ivonne Andrade and Branka Savic of Northern Illinois in the opening round.
In the final day of qualifying singles, Perton defeated Notre Dame’s Kelly Nelson 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, earning one of eight qualifier berths to advance to the main singles draw.
Doubles action continues on Saturday, Oct. 25 with the Round of 16 beginning at 9 a.m. Main singles draw action begins at 10:30 a.m., as Indiana will be represented with seven Hoosiers.
