BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana tennis player senior Dora Vastag lost her round of 16 match on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional in Minneapolis, Minn. In addition, the Hoosiers completed the final day at the IU Fall Invitational.

Vastag dropped a three-set match to Alexis Prousis of Northwestern, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

At the Indiana Fall Invitational, freshman Brianna Williams lost her No. 1 flight winner’s bracket match, 6-0, 7-6 (7), 1-0 (10), to Lauren Clary of Xavier.

Additionally, sophomore Kara Zeder beat Xavier’s Stephanie Bauer, 6-2, 6-1, and senior Dominika Walterova downed Toledo’s Eunice Paravicini, 6-2, 7-5. As well, freshman Amanda El-Tobgy won her match, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10), over Jennifer Pollack of Ball State.

In the No. 2 singles flight, freshman Pam Gesellchen bested her opponent, Katie Lohner of Xavier, 1-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10).

“This tournament was basically the bottom half of our line-up playing the other school’s entire line-up. That being said, we should have had better results,” said Head Coach Lin Loring. “When a No. 4 player plays a No. 1 player it is often more of a mental battle than a physical battle. We lost some matches because I’m not sure we thought we could win them.”

The Hoosiers will close out their fall season at home with the Indiana Invitational on Oct. 5-7. Purdue, Notre Dame and DePaul, along with IU, are slated to compete in the three-day tournament.
