Kalamazoo, Mich. – Indiana senior Linda Tran and junior Dora Vastag at the ITA Midwest Championships quarterfinal singles each lost on Monday, Oct. 27.

Tran was defeated in the quarterfinals by the No. 3 seed, Illinois’ Jennifer McGaffigan, 6-4, 6-3.

Vastag, a 9-16 seed, fell to the No. 4 seed, Jessica Rush of Northwestern 6-3, 6-1.

Head coach Lin Loring was pleased with how both girls played.

“Linda played really well,” Loring said. “This might have been the best tennis she has played in several years. The match was much closer than the score indicated. Dora pinched a nerve and just couldn’t play her best.”

Loring was happy with Indiana’s overall performance at the Midwest Regional.

“Overall, it was a good tournament,” Loring said. “Having two players in the quarterfinals is an accomplishment, especially with Linda not being seeded. Karie Schlukebir and Linda played well in doubles. The courts were very fast compared to ours, so the conditions weren't favorable for our girls.”

Indiana plays in its final tournament of the fall when it travels to the Western Michigan Fall Classic Friday, Nov. 7 – Sunday, Nov. 9.
