Indiana Closes Fall Season With Western Michigan Super Challenge
Nov. 2, 2006
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's tennis team concludes its fall season at the Western Michigan Super Challenge at the West Hills Athletic Club, Nov. 3-5 in Kalamazoo, Mich.
"This is a great tournament for us to finish the fall season," head coach Lin Loring said. "All nine players will get to play three singles and three doubles. At the end of the weekend we will have a really good idea of where we are as a team and what we need to concentrate on the next two months in practice before the dual match season starts."
The field includes Northwestern, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Western Michigan. The tournament features six flights of singles and three flights of doubles during the three days of the tournament.
Several players are coming off a strong showing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) Midwest Regional tournament. Freshman Lindsey Stuckey went 4-1 at the tournament, winning her first three matches in the singles qualifier to reach the main draw. She fell to the second-seeded Alexis Prousis of Northwestern in the first round of the main draw, but rebounded to defeat Priyanka Parekh of Western Michigan in consolation, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7).
Sophomore Alba Berdala had a good win over Notre Dame's Kali Krisik, 7-6, 6-3. The Irish were ranked second in the country last year. Freshman Erin Clark also had a strong win in the qualifying round against Alex Seaton, who transferred to Minnesota after competing as the No. 1 player at Colgate last year.
