Bloomington, Ind. The Indiana womens tennis team won seven of nine matches in the first day of the Indiana Invitational, Friday afternoon at the IU Tennis Center.
The Hoosiers won all three doubles matches against Purdue, as the team of Laura McGaffigan and Brianna Williams defeated Shawna Zuccarini and Brooke Beier, 8-3.
Dominika Walterova and Dora Vastag defeated Hala Sufi and Stephanie Wooten, 8-4, while Kara Zeder and Cecile Perton ousted Lara Burgarello and Brittany Minn, 8-5.
In singles action, IU took on Notre Dame, winning four of six matches. McGaffigan paced the Hoosiers as she defeated Kristina Stastny, 6-0, 6-4. Williams defeated Lauren Connelly, 7-5, 6-2, while Walterova took a straight-set victory from Sarah Jane Connelly, 6-3, 6-2. Perton won the final singles match of the day as she defeated Bailey Louderback, 6-1, 6-1.
We tried all new doubles today, head coach Lin Loring said, They all played surprising well. Overall we had a good day in singles and doubles.
The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow in day two with play beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
