Bloomington, Ind. The Indiana womens tennis team won seven matches in the second day of competition at Indiana Invitational, Saturday afternoon at the IU Tennis Center and Outdoor Varsity Courts.
In singles action, Indiana won four of six matches against Big Ten rival, Purdue. Senior Dora Vastag dropped a three-set match to Hala Sufi, 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10). Sophomore Laura McGaffigan also dropped a three-set match to Stephanie Wooten, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7), while freshman Brianna Williams, scored a straight-set victory over Brooke Beier, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomores Cecile Perton and Kara Zeder, each won their match in straight-sets over Shawna Zuccarini, 6-1, 6-2 and Brittany Minna, 6-2, 6-1, respectively. Senior Dominika Walterova also scored a straight-set victory over Amy Walgenbach, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles action, Zeder and Perton notched victories over Brenda Leung and Anja Mihaldinec, of Purdue 8-4 and Liz Donohue and Bailey Lauderback of Notre Dame, 8-2.
Against the team of Gergana Ganeva and Beatrix Csordas of DePaul, Walterova and Vastag won, 9-7. McGaffigan and Williams dropped their matches to Marina Parashkevova and Petra Rehusova of DePaul, 8-4 and Brooke Buck and Lauren Connelly of Notre Dame, 8-2.
With the exception of two close singles matches that slipped away, head coach Lin Loring said, We played pretty good today. Our doubles team wasnt quite as sharp as Friday, but overall we did a lot of good things in singles and doubles.
The Hoosiers return to action Sunday, Nov. 7, in the Invitational final day of competition at IU Tennis Center beginning a 9:00 a.m.
