Bloomington, Ind. - The Hoosiers women's tennis team concluded its fall campaign by winning four of seven singles matches against DePaul in the final day at the Indiana Invitational, Sunday morning, at the Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Senior Dora Vastag won her match in straight-sets over Marina Parashevova, 7-5, 6-4, while sophomore Laura McGaffigan took a straight-set victory from Petra Rehusova, 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Brianna Williams ended her fall campaign on a strong note as she defeated Gergana Ganeva in three-sets, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (7), while sophomore Kara Zeder ousted Anja Milhadinec in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Senior Dominika Walterova dropped a hard fought three-set match to Beatrix Csordas, 6-7, 6-4, 1-0. Sophomore Cecile Perton retired in her match against Bojana Murisic after dropping the first set, 6-3, while freshman Amanda El-Tobgy dropped a straight-set match to Brenda Leung, 7-5, 6-4.
"It was a good weekend for us." head coach Lin Loring said. "All the competition was close. Those are the matches you can learn from. Hopefully our individual lessons from now until January will be really productive."
The Hoosiers are off until Jan. 22, when they begin the spring portion of the schedule. IU will host DePaul and Ball State at the IU Tennis Center. Indiana will face the Blue Demons at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Cardinals at 2:30 p.m.
