Bloomington, Ind.-Jessica Anderson defeated Marquette's Laura Garcia at the ITA Midwest Championships today to win the singles consolation draw. The Championships took place this weekend on the campus of Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana and brought together the best players in the Midwest region.
Anderson, a junior, overcame a loss in the main draw on Friday to Ohio State's Kristy Driscoli, to win five straight matches and the consolation championship. She defeated Garcia 4-6,7-6,7-5.
Assistant Coach Ramiro Azcui on Anderson's play, "Jessica played really well, and competed really hard. It was a very tough match for her. She was able to come at the end and play her best tennis. It was a really good tournament for her. She had some good wins in the consolation along the way."
