Bloomington, IN - Head coach Lin Loring announced today the signing of Laura McGaffigan (Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf High School) to play tennis at Indiana University. McGaffigan will join the Hoosiers in the fall of 2003.

"We are extremely pleased that Laura will be joining us next year," Loring said. "With a sister playing No. 1 at Illinois and a sister playing top three at Wisconsin, all the Big Ten schools were recruiting her. I expect Laura to have an immediate impact on our line-up. Also, she is an excellent student and a really nice young lady. We couldn't ask for a better recruit for our program."

McGaffigan will come to Indiana with a wealth of accomplishments throughout her high school career. In 2000, McGaffigan teamed up with sister Jenny to become Iowa State Doubles Champions and turned around in 2001 to win the Championship with sister Katie. In that same year the United States Tennis Association (USTA) ranked McGaffigan among the top 41 in the nation for Girls'16 age group. Furthermore in 2001 McGaffigan was ranked No. 2 in Girls 18 in Missouri Valley Tennis.

This past season, McGaffigan was captain of her varsity team and a finalist in the Iowa State Singles Championships. She played at the No. 1 position on the Girls' 18 Intersectional Team and was ranked 88th nationally by USTA.

McGaffigan also enjoyed much success as a member of her high school volleyball team, receiving first-team All-Conference (Mississippi Athletic Conference) in 2001 and 2002, as well as being named team captain this past fall.

In addition to her on-court accomplishments, McGaffigan is an excellent student and has been a recognized as a member of the High Honor Roll.
