Bloomington, Ind.- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its fall regional rankings on Dec. 4, and five Indiana womens players were recognized. Seniors Martina Grimm, Karie Schlukebir and Linda Tran, junior Dora Vastag and sophomore Sarah Batty were all among those receiving rankings.
Vastag is ranked seventh in singles. This fall, Vastag had a singles record of 5-2, making it to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Championships.
Tran is ranked 13th in singles after going 6-5 this fall. She also made it to the quarterfinals of the ITA Midwest Championships.
Schlukebir and Tran are ranked third in the Midwest in doubles. The duo had an overall doubles record of 13-1 during the fall, and advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Championships.
Grimm and Batty are ranked 10th in the Midwest in doubles. The tandem went 5-1 during the fall.
Head coach Lin Loring was pleased and excited to learn about the girls receiving rankings.
"I'm please for the girls that the regional committee ranked them. It shows we had a successful fall. The challenge will be for us to improve those rankings as we start dual match play in January."
The Indiana womens team begins the spring dual match season Jan. 18 when the Hoosiers host Western Michigan at 9:30 a.m. and Miami (Ohio) at 2:30 p.m.
