BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Indiana track and field teams opened the 2008 indoor season as they hosted the Indiana Open on January 12, 2008 at Gladstein Fieldhouse.

The women's team was led by junior Wendi Robinson who dominantly won the one mile run, finishing just under 19 seconds ahead of the competition. Her time of 4:53.81 was just .61 seconds more than her career best of 4:53.20.

Junior Molly Beckwith won the 400m dash with a career best time of 57.69, cutting .15 seconds off of her previous best. Beckwith then used her skills in the 400 to anchor Indiana's 4X400 relay, which she ran with juniors Britney Freiberger and Caitlin Lauer and freshman Lindsey Hartman. They won the relay with a time of 3:54.45, which was more than four seconds ahead of the competition.

Lauer also finished in front in the 600m run. Her time of 1:32.28 improved her career best of 1:32.86. Finishing behind Lauer was her teammate, junior Audrey Smoot, with a time of 1:34.36.

In the 3000m run, senior Maura Ratcliffe finished second with a time of 10:24.13 which shattered her previous best of 10:29.51.

Indiana had two women in the top four in the pole vault. Freshman Stephanie Chin finished second, and sophomore Vera Neuenswander finished fourth after tiebreakers because the two both vaulted over 3.77m to enter a three way knot with Stephanie Duffy of South Florida who finished in third.

The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday when they compete at Gladstein Fieldhouse again in the Big Ten-SEC Challenge.
