    Hoosiers Take Second at Indiana Invitational

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana men's and women's track and field teams both finished runner-up at the Indiana Invitational on Jan. 21 in Gladstein Fieldhouse. Both teams combined for 21 new personal bests and 10 first-place finishes. The women finished second behind Big Ten rival Ohio State with 147 points, while the men took runner-up to Indiana State with 139 points. Additionally, two Hoosiers are one step closer to the NCAA Championships. Stacey Clausing met the NCAA's provisional mark in the women's 400m, while Ryan Ketchum earned the mark in the men's shot put.

    Three runners in the 60m hurdles recorded new personal bests. First-place finisher Courtney Johnson earned a new best mark and a first-place finish with a time of 8.47, just before teammate Lorian Price. Britney Freiberger and Beth Gibbs both picked up new personal bests in the event. In the men's 60m hurdles, Stephanos Ioannou finished runner-up with a time of 8.06.

    In the women's mile, Kelly Siefker, who finished second, recorded a new personal best mark of 4:56.45. Ashley Sommer, who finished with the eighth-best time, recorded a new best mark as well with a time of 5:10.06. In the men's mile, Eric Redman finished runner-up with a time of 4:09.82, while teammate Brennon Plotner, who finished sixth, recorded a new personal best mark with a time of 4:17.52.

     

     

    In the women's 400m, Stacey Clausing's first-place time of 54.31 met the NCAA's provisional mark in the 400m and is a new personal best. Michele Huber finished third, crossing the line at 57.16.

    Ryan Ketchum hurled an event-best 17.88m (58-8.00) which met the NCAA's provisional mark in the men's shot put. Additionally, Nick Panozzo recorded a new personal best in the event with a throw of 12.15m (30-10.50).

    Price took home another IU first-place finish in the long jump. Price jumped 5.93m(19-5.50), and teammate Candace Perry finished runner up with a leap of 5.91m (19-04.75). In the men's long jump, Kiwan Lawson jumped to an event-best mark of 7.16m(23-6.00) and Tyler Skelton finished just behind him with a jump of 6.88m (22-07.00). Skelton's jump was a new personal best.

    John Gunnell finished with a runner-up time of 49.40 in the 400m. Gunnell's performance set a new personal best of him in the event.

    In the women's 60m dash, Price, who finished second, recorded a new personal best time in the event with a mark of 7.68. Johnson earned a new personal best mark as well in the 60m as she crossed the line in 7.80. In the men's 60m, Marcus Thigpen finished first with a time of 6.85. Wil Glover was the next-best Hoosier finisher in third place with a mark of 6.86.

    In the women's 600m, Indiana's Caitlin Lauer took home a first-place finish with a time of 1:34.82.

    Clausing recorded her second personal best mark of the day in the women's 200m. The St. Mary's, Ohio product crossed the line in 24.12 for first place. Audrey Smoot, who finished ninth in the 200m, also recorded a new personal best time of 26.21. In the men's 200m, Thigpen finished in second place and recorded a new best mark in the event with a time of 21.94, while teammate Jacob Moylan, who crossed the line in sixth place, etched a new personal best by his name with a time of 22.68.

    In the men's pole vault, Jeff Coover claimed another first-place finish with a jump of 5.00m (16-04.75). Trey Lockerbie, who finished seventh with a leap of 4.55m, recorded a new personal best for himself.

    The IU women boasted more outstanding performances in the 3,000m. Second-place finisher Lindsay Hattenorf, who ran a 9:48.41, shattered her previous personal best mark by over nine seconds while teammate Stephanie Greer bettered her best mark by 30 seconds with a time of 10:02.82 this meet. In the women's mile, all three runners recorded new personal bests and Siefker and Jessica Gall both cracked five-minute miles.

    Despite a first-place finish in the women's 4x400m with a time of 3:44.89, the IU women could not edge a tough Ohio State squad for the win.
