Feb. 8, 2008
SOUTH BEND, Ind.
The Indiana women's team had a great night of competition. The ladies achieved seven career bests and had one provisionally qualifying mark and an IU school record.
The distance medley relay team of juniors Molly Beckwith, Audrey Smoot, Wendi Robinson, and Caity Lauer, finished 8.52 seconds faster than the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships and cut nearly four full seconds off of the previous Indiana University record in the event. Their time of 11:21.18 was good for fourth place as five teams were under the provisional mark. Indiana's mark is the tenth best time recorded thus far in Division I in the indoor season. The previous IU record was set last season by a relay team that included Lauer and Beckwith, and the mark was set on March 3, 2007, at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Freshman Lindsey Hartman finished ninth in the 500m dash with her career best time of 1:15.67. Her time was just .29 seconds behind the eight place finisher.
Two Hoosiers had career bests in the long jump. Sophomore Arielle McAlpin's jump of 5.51m was 11 centimeters further than her previous best. Sophomore Jackie Coleman finished with a mark of 5.48m, adding six centimeters to her previous best.
In the high jump, freshman Laura Morris recorded a career best. Her time of 1.63m added a centimeter to her previous best.
The Hoosiers will continue action in the Meyo Invite on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. ET.
