Feb. 12, 2010
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Indiana got NCAA qualifying performances on day one at the Tyson Invitational. Freshman Arianne Raby and seniors Molly Beckwith and Wendi Robinson ran NCAA provisional marks and junior Faith Sherrill recorded a new school record in the weight throw to lead the Hoosiers.
Sherrill recorded her second IU record of the season. She let go of a 70 centimeter career best in the weight throw, taking second place at the meet. Her heave of 20.00m (65-7.5) passes Jennifer Brown on IU's all-time list for the top spot and puts her at No. 11 on the national list. She bettered the NCAA provisional standard by 4' 1.25". Sherrill past Brown and IU Athletics Hall of Famer Katrin Koch for the IU shot put record earlier this season. Senior Kristen Crawford was close to her second provisional throw of the year, taking fifth with a heave of 18.67m (61-3.25).
Raby recorded the second NCAA provisional time of her career, finishing in 2:08.60 in the 800m. Her time is .40 seconds better than the provisional standard and ties her for the seventh fastest in school history. Raby ran a leg on IU's record-setting distance medley relay at the Meyo Invitational. Raby took seventh in the two-heat final. Junior Lindsey Hartman finished fourth in her heat with a time of 2:09.68, the eighth-fastest time in school history.
Beckwith ran a second faster than her season mark in the mile. Her time of 4:42.23 is nearly five seconds better than the provisional standard and is the fourth-fastest in IU history. Beckwith finished fourth overall.
Robinson finished third in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 16:34.12 is more than 10 seconds faster than the NCAA provisional standard of 16:44.50. She holds the fourth-best time in Division I this season. The time is Robinson's fourth NCAA mark of the season, as she also has qualifying times in the mile, 3,000m and distance medley relay.
In Bloomington, the Hoosiers hosted the Hoosier Hills. IU got wins out of Verena Vogel in the 800m (2:15.55), Ruth Christopher in the 600m (1:34.02) and Ryan Hindes in the 600m (collegiate winner in 1:21.17).
