Day One Heptathlon Results in PDF Format
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Freshman Derek Drouin is in fourth place through five events in the decathlon on day one at the Alabama Relays. Drouin also posted a regional qualification in the high jump on the day. Sophomore Laura Morris is in eighth in the heptathlon through four events. Friday will see more multi competition as well as the women's hammer throw.
Drouin moved himself into ninth all-time in the IU outdoor record books with his mark in the high jump. The All-American cleared 2.13m (6-11.75) for the best mark in the event on the day. His height is three centimeters better than the regional standard and earned him 925 points. Drouin finished the day with 3526 points on the day. He is just 212 points out of the lead. On day two, Drouin will eye the provisional standard in the decathlon which is 6,900 points.
Morris has posted 2867 points through four events. She will be looking to get to 5,050 on day two, which is the NCAA provisional standard. Morris cleared 1.66m (5-5.25) in the high jump, the third best mark in the event. She also recorded a career best of 15.49 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.
Also competing on day one were junior Matt Schmitz, who finished in 12th with 3266 points, and freshman Ryan Hindes who finished in 15th with 3148 points.
