    Morris Takes Seventh in the Heptathlon on Day Two at Alabama Relays

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Freshman Derek Drouin posted a third place finish in the decathlon on day two at the Alabama Relays. Indiana had four others take top-eight finishes. Junior Matt Schmitz was seventh in the decathlon, sophomore Laura Morris was seventh in the heptathlon, and sophomore Kristen Crawford and junior Kristen Ness took seventh and eighth respectfully in the hammer throw.

    Drouin scored 6,318 points for third place in the decathlon. The point total is the eighth best in IU history. The freshman put up his best mark in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 15.51 seconds for 789 points. Drouin put up 3,526 points on day one, posting a regional qualifying height in the high jump in the process. Schmitz scored 6,099 points for seventh place. His highest scoring event on day two was the pole vault. He cleared 4.25m (13-11.25) for 688 points.

    Morris scored 4,534 points for seventh place in the heptathlon. The point total is just 89 points shy of her career best. Her best event on the day was the 800-meters, finishing in 2:32.20 for 666 points.

    Crawford recorded a heave of 50.36m (165-3) for seventh place. Her mark is the fifth best in school history, surpassing Heather Colyer in the record books. Ness’s best throw of the meet was 48.51m (159-2), good for eighth.
