Hoosiers Close Out Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Indiana posted five wins and several impressive performances on day four at the Alabama Relays. The Hoosiers finished out the meet with seven event wins. Leading the day for IU were senior Jeff Coover, sophomore Olumide Olamigoke and the women's distance medley, sprint medley and 4x800m relays.
Coover won the pole vault with a clearance of 5.35m (17-6.5). Coover was a foot and nearly six inches better than his closest competitor. His clearance is just a centimeter off his outdoor career best. His jump is the third-best in Div. I this season.
Olamigoke took the title in the triple jump, covering 15.08m (49-5.75). His mark was wind-aided, but his best non-wind-aided mark was 15.04m, which is among the top-30 marks in Div. I this season. Sophomore Rex Parker wasn't far behind, jumping 14.96m (49-1).
Redshirt freshman Aireonna Bailey, sophomores Ann-Marie Clarke and Jordan Gray and senior Molly Beckwith won the 1600m sprint medley relay with a time of 3:49.91. The group was more than second faster than the rest of the field.
Juniors Ashley Baker and Lindsey Hartman and freshmen Ruth Christopher and Ashley Seymour won the 4x800m relay by nearly six seconds. They recorded a time of 9:07.45.
Redshirt freshman Daniel Novia took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 57.88m (189-11). His throw is the fourth best in school history. Novia was nearly two feet better than the third-place finisher. Fellow redshirt freshman Patrick Onye took sixth, throwing 52.32m (171-8). Onye's heave is the ninth best ever at IU.
Indiana took second in the women's 4x1500m relay, as freshmen Kelsey Duerksen, Erica Ridderman and Verena Vogel and sophomore Caitlin Engel finished in 19:16.70. IU was third in the women's 4x400m relay, as Baker, Beckwith, Clarke and Hartman finished in 3:47.56.
Junior Paul Haas took third in the discus, recording a heave of 49.88m (163-8).
