Stechschulte Takes Texas Relays Title in Heptathlon

AUSTIN, Texas - Senior Abbie Stechschulte wrapped up competition at the 81st Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas as the collegiate champion in the heptathlon with a personal-best score of 5,661, the second-best point total in Indiana women's track and field history.
Stechschulte placed second overall to Julie Pickler from Asics, who tallied 5,990 points. Stechschulte's score also automatically qualifies her for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 12-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
In the first event of the day, Stechschulte took fourth with a mark of 5.96 meters in the long jump. She used a toss of 35.52 meters to place seventh in the javelin, and finished third in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:17.57.
Seniors Courtney Johnson and Kyle Jenkins will get underway in the Texas Relays tomorrow with the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump, respectively. Johnson is set to compete in the prelims of the 100m hurdles at 10:30 a.m. ET tomorrow, while Jenkins will compete in the finals of the triple jump at 3 p.m.
