KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Kristen Crawford and junior Kristen Ness took third and fourth respectively in the hammer throw on Thursday at the Sea Ray Relays. The women’s hammer throw and multi competition were the only events contested on the day, and the event gets into full swing starting on Friday.
Crawford was third, throwing a career best 51.60m (169-3). She added four feet to her previous best, and her heave is the fifth best in school history. The Staunton, Va., native moves closer to the regional standard of 54.15m.
Ness was just 18 centimeters shy of Crawford for fourth place. She recorded a heave of 51.42m (168-08). Ness recorded the fourth best mark in school history last weekend at the Pepsi Team Invitational.
