    Sea Ray Relays - Chin Breaks School Record, Rain Ends Competition

    Results

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Hoosiers competed at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., on Friday. Competition was brought to a halt at 5:11 p.m. as heavy rain moved into the area. 14 Hoosiers finished competition before the cancellation.

    The women's team was led by freshman Stephanie Chin who recorded an Olympic qualifying height in the pole vault. Her mark of 4.25m is five centimeters better than the Olympic `B' standard, and the mark is ten centimeters better than the IU record she set at the Alabama Relays. The mark is currently the best mark at the Division I level this outdoor season. Chin finished in second place behind Erin Asay of Sheffield Elite Track Club.

    Senior Courtney Johnson improved her mark in the 100m hurdles. Her time of 13.45 is .17 seconds faster than her previous best on the season. The improvement moves Johnson into the top-20 times recorded at the Division I level this season. Johnson's time was good for fourth place.

    Sophomore Vera Neuenswander finished ninth in the pole vault, improving her season best to 3.95m. Neuenswander added another ten centimeters to her season best and put herself in the top-17 at the Division I level. Neuenswander will join Chin at the NCAA Mideast Regional in May. Sophomore Ashley Rhoades improved her career best in the high jump, recording a mark of 1.70m. Her jump was three centimeters higher than her previous outdoor best of 1.67m. Her mark is only five centimeters shy of the regional qualifying standard and only three centimeters short of fifth-best all-time at Indiana.

    Four other Hoosiers recorded career bests on the day. Senior Kyndal Carr shed .23 seconds off of her career best in the 100m dash, finishing in 12.11 seconds. JuniorAudrey Smoot finished in 57.63 seconds in the 400m dash, cutting .06 seconds on her previous outdoor best. Freshman Lindsey Hartman finished in 1:00.19 in the 400m dash, recording a career best. Sophomore Kayla Smith recorded a time of 1:02.43 seconds in the 400m Hurdles, improving her career best by .18 seconds.
