    Three Record First Place Finishes at Missouri's Tom Botts Invitational

    COLUMBIA, Mo. - Three Hoosiers recorded first place finishes as the Indiana track and field teams competed at the Tom Botts Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri at Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo., on Friday, April 13.

    Sophomore Wendi Robinson clocked IU's fifth-fastest time in school history in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:53.11 for first place. Senior Jessica Gall also won her event with a time of 9:52.89 in the 3,000-meter run, while senior Lorian Price recorded a first-place mark of 5.78 meters in the long jump.

    "Despite the cold weather, we had some good performances and it was good for the student-athletes to get out and compete after not having any competition last weekend," IU interim head women's track and field coach Judy Wilson said. "For some people, it was their season opener and we're looking for good weather tomorrow and hopefully some regional qualifiers."

    Freshman Sarah Pease placed second in the steeplechase with in a personal best 11:08.53, and was followed by sophomore Ashley Sommer in fourth with a time of 11:39.91 and junior Maura Ratcliff with a time of 12:04.90 for fifth in the event.

    Senior Lindsay Hattendorf placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:03.36. She was followed by senior Kristin Whitezell with a fourth-place time of 10:09.36 and freshman Rachel Ehret in fifth with a personal-best time of 10:14.63.

     

     

    Junior Zakiya Robinson placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.69 meters. Senior Candace Perry recorded a fourth-place jump of 5.53 meters. Freshman Jacqueline Coleman finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.31 meter and classmate Arielle McAlpin finished eighth with a leap of 5.08 meters.

    Freshman Kristen Ness also competed, placing seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.00 meters.

    The Hoosiers return to action tomorrow at the Tom Botts Invitational at 3 p.m. ET with the 4x100-meter relay race. Field events begin at 2 p.m. with the triple jump.
