Three Hoosiers Reach Regional Marks in Final Day of Cardinal Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three Hoosiers recorded regional qualifying marks as the Indiana track and field teams concluded competition at the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by the University of Louisville, on Saturday, April 21.
Senior Stacey Clausing took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.42 to qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet on May 25-26 in Columbia, Mo. Classmate Lorian Price ran a 13.77 for first place in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time also qualified her for regional competition. Senior Courtney Johnson reached the regional standard for a third time in the 100-meter hurdles as she ran a 13.80 for second in the event.
Clausing also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.02. Freshman Vera Neuenswander won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.65 meters. Sophomore Tiffany Howard finished second in the discus with a mark of 43.03 meters. She also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.22 meters.
Junior Zakiya Robinson finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.57 meters, while Price followed in fourth with a leap of 5.54 meters. Freshman Jacqueline Coleman used a jump of 11.65 meters in the triple jump for second. Freshman Faith Sherrill finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.66 meters, and sophomore Courtney Freiberger placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 34.79 meters. Freshman Rachel Ehret took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:17.82, and senior Michele Huber finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in 58.35.
"We had a very good day with the regional marks from Stacey and Lorian," IU interim head women's track and field coach Judy Wilson said. "Lorian and Courtney did a nice job of going first and second in the 100 hurdles, and Wendi is close to qualifying for the regional in the 1,500."
The women's 4x400-meter relay team also recorded a first place finish with a time of 3:44.92, while 4x100-meter relay team finished second in 45.94.
The Hoosiers will be back in action next week as they travel to the Drake Relays on April 26-28, in Des Moines, Iowa.
