Beckwith, Neuenswander Record Event Wins as IU Wraps Up Jesse Owens Track Classic Competition

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomores Molly Beckwith and Vera Neuenswander led the Indiana track and field team with event wins at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, May 3.
Beckwith won the 800-meter run when she crossed the finish line in a personal-best 2:06.46. Beckwith's time qualified her for the NCAA Mid East Regional and was an U.S. "B" qualifying time. Junior Audrey Smoot finished fifth in the same event in a personal-best 2:10.06. Neuenswander won the pole vault with a mark of 4.00-meters (13-01.50).
Sophomore Faith Sherrill finished as the fourth collegiate athlete, seventh overall, with a toss of 48.87 meters (160-04.00) in the discus for another regional mark. Senior Courtney Johnson finished in a tie for third with regional time of 13.40.
The women's 4x400-meter dash took fourth with a time of 3:52.97.
The Hoosiers return to action on Friday, May 9, when IU hosts the Billy Hayes Invitational at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington.
