Beckwith Wins 800, Leads IU at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Despite a rainy evening, the Indiana track and field team recorded a successful outing at its home conclusion with the Billy Hayes Invitational at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington on Friday, May 9.
Sophomore Molly Beckwith led the women's team as she ran 2:08.64 to win the 800-meter run. Junior Caity Lauer finished fourth in 2:11.26 in the same event. Senior Maura Ratcliff took second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:43.89. Sophomore Vera Neuenswander cleared 4.05 meters to take second in the pole vault. Sophomore Ashley Rhoades finished in a tie for second with a mark of 1.65 meters in the high jump.
Sophomore Faith Sherrill improved her personal-best and regional mark in the shot put with a toss of 14.86 meters to take second in the event. Teammate Tiffany Howard also tallied a regional throw with a distance of 14.30 meters in the same event. Howard went on to take third in the discus throw with a personal-best heave of 46.39 meters.
Indiana returns to action on May 16-18 when they travel to the Big Ten Championships hosted by the University of Illinois in Champaign.
