    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana scored in every event on day one at the Big Ten Championships. The IU women finished the day in third with 10 points, and the men finished the day tied for sixth with eight points.

    The women got eight points in the women's hammer throw. Faith Sherrill took fourth in the hammer throw with the second-best throw of her career, flying 55.10m (180-9). Kristen Ness took sixth with two consecutive career bests in the event finals. Ness posted heaves of 53.61m (175-10) and then 53.80m (176-06). The senior's career best entering the day was 53.26m (174-9).

    The men got five points in the pole vault from Jeff Coover. Coover cleared 5.10m (16-8.75) to finish four inches ahead of the fifth-place vaulter.

    Wendi Robinson finished seventh in the women's 10,000m race. She finished in 34:58.00 for two team points.

    Zach Mayhew contributed two team points with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000m. The freshman finished in 29:26.01.

    Daniel Novia took eighth in the men's hammer throw to earn a team point. The freshman had a toss of 57.67m (189-2).

    After day one of combined events competition, Indiana's Laura Morris and Courtney Woodard sit in seventh and eighth respectively in the heptathlon. Morris has 2934 points and Woodard has 2919. In the decathlon, Matt Schmitz is in 11th with 3394 points.
