Hoosiers Close Day One of 2008 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Indiana women's track and field team closed day one of the 2008 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Illinois Soccer and Track Stadium in Champaign in seventh place with two points.
Freshman Laura Morris ended day one of the heptathlon in ninth place with 2,925 points. She clocked a time of 15.63 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish tenth. In the high jump, Morris cleared 1.69 meters for a career-best to finish third in the high jump, and followed that with a mark of 11.39 meters in the shot put for seventh place. In the 200-meter dash, Morris crossed the finish line in 27.12 to finish 10th in the fourth heptathlon event of the day.
Also scheduled to compete in the heptathlon was senior Abbie Stechschulte. However, due to an injury she withdrew from the event.
Sophomore Kristen Ness placed seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.52 meters for a new personal best and a finish of seventh to pick up two points for the Hoosiers.
Tomorrow's action gets underway at 10:30 a.m. ET with the men's 110-meters hurdles in the decathlon.
