Howard Finishes Sixth in Shot Put in Day Two of Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Indiana women's track and field team continued action in day two of the 2008 Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships as it was led by a sixth-place finish by junior Tiffany Howard in the shot put. After two days of events, Indiana is in 10th place with five points.
Howard earned three points for the women's team after finishing sixth in the shot put with a mark of 15.03 meters, improving her regional and personal best mark.
Freshman Laura Morris opened the second day of the heptathlon competition with a mark of 5.48 meters in the long jump for eighth place. She followed that with a mark of 26.64 meters in the javelin throw to finish tenth. Morris closed the event with a time of 2:36.69 in the 800-meters for ninth place. She ended the heptathlon in ninth place with a final score of 4,643 points.
Sophomore Molly Beckwith ran the second fastest time overall in the women's 800-meters when she clocked 2:08.07 to earn a spot in the finals.
The Hoosiers wrap up competition Sunday at the Illinois Soccer and Track Stadium. Tomorrow's action begins at 12 p.m. ET with the women's triple jump and discus.
