    Siefker Snaps School Record to Advance in 3,000m Steeplechase

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Senior Kelly Siefker shattered the school record in the 3,000m steeplechase in the semifinals of the event at the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Sacramento State's Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on June 7. Additionally, Siefker's time pushed her through to the finals in the event, making her the third Hoosier of the day to advance.

    Siefker turned in a record-setting and personal-best time of 10:10.79 in the 3,000m steeplechase. The Dayton, Ohio native finished in ninth place of the semifinals to advance to Friday's finals.

    Siefker broke Audrey Giesler's 2003 mark of 10:14.19 set at the Big Ten Championships. Previously, Siefker's best time of 10:18.59 occurred at last season's NCAA Outdoor Championships.

    On the men's side, Wil Fleming (hammer throw) and David Neville (400m) advanced in their respective events.

    Jessica Gall (10,000m), Stephen Haas (10,000m), John Jefferson (1,500m), Ryan Ketchum (shot put), Larra Overton (1,500m), Ara Towns (100m) and the men's 4x400m relay team (Neville, Doug Dayhoff, Ryan Smith, Trey Warfield and John Gunnell) will compete on Thursday, June 8.
