June 9, 2006
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Senior Kelly Siefker rounded out the Indiana women's track and field team's efforts at the 2006 NCAA Championships on June 9 with a ninth-place finish in the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase. With the ninth place finish, Siefker becomes the Hoosiers' second 3,000m steeplechase All-American in three years (Audrey Giesler, 2004).
The school-record holder in the 3,000m steeplechase, Siefker claimed ninth place in the finals with a time of 10:11.73. In the prelims of the event on June 7, the Dayton, Ohio product turned in a personal-best and record-setting performance with a time of 10:10.79.
Siefker finished in 16th place at last year's NCAA Championships with a then-personal best 10:18.59. This season's finish is the highest of any Hoosier female at the 2006 championships.
Fellow Hoosiers Kyle Jenkins, David Neville and the 4x400m relay team (Doug Dayhoff, Ryan Smith, Trey Warfield and Neville) will compete for national titles on Saturday, June 10.
