Pease Takes Fourth, Hoosiers Finish with Six All-Americans
June 12, 2010
EUGENE, Ore. - For the second-straight season, Sarah Pease has earned All-America honors in the 3,000m steeplechase. The junior from Elizabeth, Ind., improved from seventh in 2009 to fourth in 2010. The IU women scored 16 points in the meet for 16th place and the Hoosier men finished the meet with 13.5 points for 20th place.
Pease finished in the same position she spent most of the race, taking fourth with a time of 9:56.91. The time improves her own school record by more than two seconds. Pease earns IU's fourth All-America certificate in the event, and is the only Hoosier ever to score points at the national meet in the steeplechase. Pease was just five seconds out of second place in the race. The junior is the highest outdoor placer in an event longer than 800m for IU since Colette Goudreau posted a third-place finish in the 3,000m in 1987.
In the men's 5,000m, Ben Hubers finished in 14:01.40 for 12th place and Andrew Poore was right behind, taking 13th in 14:05.06. Poore was the 10th American-born finisher, putting him just out of the All-America category. Hubers is a Canadian citizen.
The Hoosiers' season continues at the USA Jr. and Sr. Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on June 24-27. For complete coverage of IU track and field, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
