Stechschulte Opens U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - Hoosier standout Abbie Stechschulte opened the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in the heptathlon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on Friday, June 27. After four events, she is in 16th place with 3,134 points.
Stechschulte opened the day's competition with a time of 14.76 in the 100-meter hurdles for sixth place in her heat and 18th overall. She earned 874 points in the first event. In the next event, she cleared 1.60 meters (5-03.00) in the high jump to finish ninth in her flight, 18th overall for 736 points. In the shot put, Stechschulte recorded a mark of 12.77 meters (41-10.75) to finish seventh in her flight and overall for 712 points.
In the final event of the day, Stechschulte clocked a time of 25.83 to place sixth in her heat and 16th overall for 812 points to end the day with a total of 3,134. She opens competition tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET with the long jump. For a complete schedule and results, visit www.eugene08.com.
