PARK RIDGE, Ill. - For the opening week of the 2006 indoor track and field season, Indiana's Andrea Dalla Rosa earned the Big Ten's first Athlete of the Week honor of the year as announced by the conference on Jan. 10.

After spending the 2005 season watching from the sidelines due to injury, Andrea Dalla Rosa returned to the field in dominating style at the Hoosier Open on Jan. 7. In her first meet back, Dalla Rosa took home two first-place finishes. The Martinsville, Ind., native swept the competition in the weight throw with a hurl of 16.26m (53-4.25), over two meters farther than the second place opponent. In the shot put, Dalla Rosa threw an impressive 14.08m (46-2.50), nearly two meters farther than the next closest competitor.

Dalla Rosa is the first Hoosier to nab a weekly conference honor since Stacey Clausing garnered the distinction for the week ending April 4. Additionally, this is Dalla Rosa's first Big Ten Athlete of the Week award of her career.
