    HOOSIER MEN VICTORIOUS IN SEASON OPENER

    Bloomington, Ind.- The Indiana Hoosiers men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the 1998 Indoor season with a dual meet against the University of Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, January 17th, at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse. The men's team proved to be victorious defeating Michigan 77.50-72.50 while the women's team fell to the Wolverines 82-67.

    Sophomore Russell Brooks led the men's team with victories in the 55m Dash and the 200m Dash. Other Hoosiers finishing first for Indiana include: Trent Davis (400m Dash), Ty Yeager (55m Hurdles), Jeremy Rochford (High Jump), Frank DiSilvestro (Triple Jump), and Kurt Krick (Shot Put) in addition to the first place finishing 4x400m Relay.

    LaToya Turner paced the women's team with victorious in the 200m Dash and the 55m Hurdles. In addition to Turner, the Hoosiers also received first place finishes from Lorraine Dunlop (55m Dash), Hilary Bruening (600m Dash), Nathalie Belfort (High Jump), Cori McLeod (Pole Vault), Jennifer Brown (Shot Put), and Jennifer Kamtz (Weight Throw).

    The Hoosiers will head to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, January 24th, to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State. The Hoosiers next home meet will take place the following Friday, January 30th, as they play host to Tennessee and Notre Dame in the first tri-meet of the season.
