Clausing Tabbed Big Ten Athlete of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana women's track and field sprinter Stacey Clausing earned the Big Ten's Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference on Jan. 24. Clausing led the Hoosier women to a second-place finish the Indiana Invitational on Jan. 21 against conference rivals Ohio State and Purdue and instate foe Indiana State.
At the Indiana Invitational, Clausing took home three first-place finishes, two new personal and team best marks and met one NCAA provisional qualifying standard. The junior sprinter is the first Hoosier on the women's side to meet an NCAA qualifying mark. In the 200m, Clausing crossed the line in 24.12. Her time is the fasted in the event this season and in her career in the 200m. Clausing's first-place mark of 54.31 in the 400m met the NCAA provisional standard (54.40) and marked a new personal and team best. The St. Mary's, Ohio product also ran in the 4x400m relay that took home its third title in as many weeks with a time of 3:44.80.
The award is the first of Clausing's indoor career and her second overall. Clausing earned the honor for the week ending April 4, 2005 after sweeping both the 200m and 400m titles at the Indiana Relays. Additionally, she is the second IU women's track and field athlete to receive the recognition this season. Andrea Dalla Rosa earned the Big Ten's first Athlete of the Week accolade for the week ending Jan. 8 for her two-title performance at the Hoosier Open.
