Feb. 10, 2007
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Senior Stacey Clausing earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 200-meter dash to lead Indiana on the second day of the Tyson Invitational, held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Clausing finished 18th with a time of 23.90. She is just the third women in IU history to run under 24 seconds in the event. Clausing also ran the 400-meter leg of the distance medley relay team, which finished sixth with a time of 11:44.21. The time ranks third all-time at Indiana.
"Stacey ran a 53.4 on her leg of the distance medley race, which is nearing the school record," assistant coach George Freeman said. "This is a great sprint track, and we had a really successful weekend in the sprints.
"For this team to come out and run this well is really promising," interim head women's track and field coach Judy Wilson said. "This is their first time together in this race, but they still posted the third-best time in school history."
In the 4x400 meter relay, senior Michelle Huber ran her fastest split of the year as the Hoosiers finished seventh with a time of 3:46.54. Lauer, sophomore Audrey Smoot and Beckwith anchored the team.
Other highlights include freshman Faith Sherrill, who threw a personal best of 14.07 in the shot put to finish 16th. She holds Indiana's top marks in both the weight throw and shot put this season.
Freshmen Ashley Rhoades and Vera Neuenswander each finished ninth in their respective events. Rhoades was ninth in the high jump, clearing 1.60 meters, while Neuenswander placed ninth in the pole vault, clearing 3.68 meters.
The Tyson Invitational will be televised by ESPN2 on Sunday, Feb. 11 at noon EST.
Indiana will return to action on Friday, Feb. 16, as it hosts the Hoosier Hills.
