    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore Emily Tharpe is in just her second season on the Hoosier track and field team, but she holds the IU indoor and outdoor pole vault records. Tharpe cleared a height of 3.96 meters (12'11.75") at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington during the 2002 outdoor season. In indoor competition, she vaulted 3.91 meters (12'10") to take third at the Big Ten Championships. A native of Erie, Pa. (McDowell HS), Tharpe won the 2000 Nike Indoor National pole vault competition. She is off to a great start again this season, placing first in two of the Hoosiers' meets.
